Fifth Sunday Forum |
Four times each year there are five Sundays in a month, instead of the usual four. Whenever there is a fifth Sunday, our RRUU Sunday service is slightly different from the usual, as well.
Instead of a minister with a typical sermon, Fifth Sunday Forum features a person from the community, probably not a Unitarian Universalist, speaking on a topic of interest to members of our congregation. Often, the topic is something currently in the news or a social justice project the speaker is involved in.
Fifth Sunday speakers in the past have included a professor from Southeastern Oklahoma State University who is an expert in political terrorism, a local attorney who recently spent time in Iraq as a part of a Christian Peacekeepers Team, an Austin College student who participated in rebuilding efforts in New Orleans, and a local pediatrician who has made many trips in service of a children’s hospital in Haiti.
Members or friends who have ideas for Fifth Sunday Forum topics or who know of persons in our community who might be good Fifth Sunday speakers are encouraged to contact the RRUU Worship Team through this website.
